"I am a 29-year-old male working as a graduate student at RPI who was in great health until August of 2019. From then, I slowly began suffering from progressively worsening finger and arm nerve pain. Over six months I saw many specialists trying to identify the issue. With imaging revealing nothing, I felt very hopeless as the quality of my life was rapidly starting to deteriorate, and daily activities and sleeping were becoming difficult because of the pain, which at times was overwhelming. After a brief stint trying medication to deal with the issue, I realized the root cause was not being addressed and was suggested by multiple people to try physical therapy, even without a diagnosis. Maccio has excellent reviews, was conveniently close-by, and had already been vetted for me as another lab member had glowing praise of Maccio and their ability to help her carpal tunnel. The process of signing up for an appointment was easy and fast, I had an appointment within a few days.
I did not really know what to expect, but upon explaining the pain progression and my general academic lifestyle of being hunched over a laptop for the past few years, they were able to immediately identify which stretches would counter whatever damage or pressure I was putting on my nerves with my posture. Even after the first few sets of stretches I felt relief from the awful almost continuous nerve pain in my left arm.
I routinely went to Maccio and continued with the sets of stretches assigned to me. It was difficult at times to remember to consistently do the stretches, but relief from my pain was steady as long as I continued to do them. Within a month or so, the pain levels had drastically reduced. Now, almost all my previous symptoms are gone, and I have little issues doing everything I need to at work and home. I can without a doubt say the stretches Maccio assigned worked incredibly for my posture issue and without them, I would likely be still suffering, on medication I hated, and still trying to diagnose the issue with expensive medical visits.
I’d also like to recognize I visited
Maccio during the Covid-19 pandemic and throughout that time I saw exceptional adherence to pandemic guidelines,
including social distancing, mask-wearing, and disinfection of equipment. I’d
also like to personally say thank you to my physical therapist,
Dr. Lindsay who
worked with me directly. If we weren’t going through a pandemic I would give
you a long hug. Your attitude, positivity, and knowledge of your field was so
helpful in getting me through this, thank you so much for being so good at your
job, I cannot stress how much the quality of my life physically and mentally
has improved because of you." - Alex
