“Seeking treatment in COVID times was scary but the clinic followed all protocols and made me feel very comfortable.  My posture has significantly improved with a short course of treatment.” - Kathy

“I came here in the process of recovering from a broken ankle.  The experience has been very positive.  Joe's directions on how to do home exercises were clear and precise.  I would certainly recommend him to anyone needing physical therapy.  All of the staff I came into contact with were polite and friendly.  All observed the existing coronavirus protocols.” - Ellen

"I Am No Longer in Daily Pain"

“My knee was hurt during a softball game four years ago.  I have been to three doctors and had surgery three years ago.  Unfortunately, no doctor was ever able to tell me what was wrong.  I have also been to many physical therapists and while they were all good, none were able to help my condition.  At Maccio Physical Therapy, I have seen the most improvement and I am no longer in daily pain. Thank you Lindsay!” - Megan

"I'm Grateful for Finding this Practice"

"I presented with sciatic pain that was preventing me from being fully mobile to do my job as a school nurse. My primary doctor referred me to the practice and told me I would be seen quickly and would get the care I needed to get rid of the sciatic pain.
I was seen quickly and within the first week, I was more than halfway to pain-free. The exercises were easy enough to do and the frequency of exercises seems to have worked perfectly. In two weeks my sciatic pain was gone and I got help for some old hip pain and a stiff neck. With more guidance and simple exercises, I am pain-free less than four weeks after my first visit. I am grateful for finding this practice!" - Ann

"I Was Able to Resume Running Without Pain"

“I came to Maccio Physical Therapy with rather extreme right hip pain.  I tried stretches I found on the internet but nothing was working.  I decided to seek physical therapy and came to Maccio because I had been there years ago and it had worked well.  Lindsay was my therapist and immediately she knew what to do, nothing that I had seen on the internet.  The stretches she gave me to do isolated the injury and slowly stretched out the muscle.  After only a few sessions the pain quickly diminishing until it was completely gone.  I had experienced the most pain while running and was able to resume running without pain at all.  Lindsay was knowledgeable and conscientious about her work.  I am very grateful to Maccio Physical Therapy for helping me become pain-free and able to resume running without further pain or problem.” - Camille

"I Didn't Miss a Single Game"

Men's softball semifinals set - The Martha's Vineyard Times"I came to Maccio Physical Therapy convinced that I needed surgery on my shoulder. I threw my arm out during a men’s league softball game. As an outfielder, I was under the impression I wouldn’t be able to participate anymore. With the expertise at Maccio PT, I didn’t miss a single game. My physical therapist gave me the exercises and stretches necessary to improve the strain while not having to compromise much and continue for the summer. I can say with confidence that my shoulder has improved tremendously each day and it only continues to feel better. I will continue to take their advice and implement the exercises to not re-injure my shoulder. If I ever need PT I will come back to Maccio Physical Therapy without a doubt." - Ryan

"Telehealth Was Surprisingly Easy"

"I had been suffering from neck pain and had physical therapy in the past, but it came back during quarantine.  I wasn't sure how to take care of it at first due to being at high risk of complications if I went outside my apartment and caught coronavirus.  I was very relieved when I found out that Maccio PT did telehealth appointments, and I was able to set something up with Joe Jr.  It was surprisingly easy to do the appointments over the computer!  Due to the combination of Joe teaching me to slow down while doing the exercises and the fact that quarantine gave me more time to be consistent in doing them, I felt better even faster than in the past.  It was a very pleasant surprise how quickly my healing progressed.  I would urge anyone who is in need of physical therapy to give telehealth a try.  Its great innovation for the strange times we are in!" - Rachel

I Would Recommend Maccio to Anyone with Unresolved Pain

“I lived with daily pain achiness, stiffness, and just overall discomfort in my neck.  For years I just suffered with feeling miserable everyday energy, mood, and discomfort wise.  I was taking pain medications almost on a daily basis to try and help the discomfort as well as occasional muscle relaxers, both of which never fully resolved the pain just made it more tolerable.  Doctor visits for medications, x-rays showing nothing, even cortisone injections that didn’t work.  Finally, after about 8 years of this and feeling like I was always just going to have to deal with this ongoing neck pain, my doctor referred me to Maccio PT.  The doctors assessed me and worked with me to find the proper exercises to resolve my pain.  After a short time in visiting Maccio (less than 6 months), my pain has basically fully resolved and I’m feeling much happier and energetic being pain-free.  Plus now if I ever have a flare-up I know how to help it.  The doctors and staff were all extremely pleasant, helpful, and accommodating.  I would recommend Maccio to anyone with chronic unresolved pain that they just can’t deal with anymore as I did!  Thank you!” –Jennifer

"I am Back to Normal"

“I came to Maccio Physical Therapy with pain in my thumb and wrist, bad enough to interfere with my job, my leisure activities, and even my sleep.  After a few visits, there was a huge improvement thanks to the exercises I was given.  I am happy to say that as of today I am back to normal – I can use a mouse, hold a video game controller, and go for a bike ride without pain.  I couldn’t be happier with the results and will absolutely return should I ever need to in the future.” – Derek

"Telehealth Worked For Me"

Is Online Teaching Right for Me?
"I contacted Joseph Maccio about two weeks ago, in mid-April due to significant lower back pain due to a wrong movement in my back, some extended construction work that required bending, and intense virtual teaching that required long periods of sitting, I was having pain in my lower back that made it difficult to sit, stand and even lay down. I wasn’t sure how to deal with it as nothing seemed to feel right. Due to Covid-19 I hesitated to go to the doctor and tried to find videos online that gave advice, when I realized some things helped while others made things worse. I have gone to Maccio in the past and realized they might be doing telehealth and can recommend the correct treatment.
In the telehealth sessions we analyzed the movements I was having trouble with and when they got better and worse, and found the correct course of action. In less than a week I saw a drastic improvement, and now I think I am back to almost full function. I highly recommend Maccio and find that the Tele-Medicine worked very well for me, especially under the unique circumstances we are in."

"Without Maccio PT I Wouldn't Be Where I am Today"

"As a teenager and avid athlete, stress on muscles and injuries occur. Over the summer I hurt my knee and was in some considerable pain. Multiple doctors and treatments were not helping decrease the pain. Upon getting the suggestion to attend physical therapy, I decided to give Maccio Physical Therapy a try. Immediately, my injury was assessed in a whole new way. They not only looked at increasing my knee movement but also other factors that had not been examined before. With the help of the physical therapy team I was able to find exercises that took my pain away. Not only my knees but my back, neck, and entire body movements increased. Being able to gradually find ways to stop the pain was eye-opening. I had not been without some type of pain for several months. I have now been able to return to physical activity such as running and basketball without experiencing pain. Without the help of Maccio Physical Therapy I would not be where I am today and would still be seeking alternative treatments as the pain would still exist." - Matthew

"My Telehealth Experience"

"Right before the “New York On Pause” social distancing protocols were put in place I started physical therapy for my hip. I had sustained an injury that resulted in an ER visit due to the extreme pain. After two visits in person I decided to try a Telehealth visit through the Google Meets platform with Joe Jr. He was able to observe my hip movements and easily make corrections to my exercises. I have been engaging with him through video bi-weekly and am experiencing much progress with my painful injury. I am no longer limping and he is able to spot through video when I am not doing the exercises correctly.
The idea of physical therapy through video seemed counter-intuitive at first but I am glad that I decided to give it a try! I normally travel almost an hour for my appointments since I have found that the Mckenzie Method that they practice to be extremely helpful, so it is indeed a silver lining that I am able to save time on my commute as well."

"Success Through Telehealth"

"I was 36 years old, relatively young and fit, and was thinking that intermittent neck pain might just be my new normal. It's wasn't debilitating, but it certainly sucked the joy out of my life. I had to consider how my neck might react before getting in the car for a long trip, roughhousing with my kids, or even reading a good book in a reclined position before bed. Because of the intermittent way the pain would hit, I'd waited way too long to do anything about it. I started at my primary, and they referred me to traditional physical therapy. I went diligently twice a week for an hour each time and did all of the prescribed exercises for two months. It was hard to tell if I was accomplishing anything, but I don't really think so. I decided to try seeing a chiropractor. They did an adjustment, and while it did feel great (and I still see them sometimes) it didn't solve my problem. I finally buckled down and saw a specialist who referred me to Maccio Physical Therapy for Mckenzie Method Physical Therapy.

I met Joe on my first appointment. He did an evaluation and explained in a clear and concise way what my issue was, and what specific exercises I would need to do in order to heal. It wasn't a laundry list of general exercises like I had been doing previously for hours each day, but rather a single specific maneuver that could be completed in just a few minutes several times a day. Joe talked me through the whole course of what we would be doing to get me well, and we began. After that initial appointment, the COVID-19 pandemic hit. I slacked off on my exercises and canceled my appointments as I had other things that I needed to focus on, but before long, Joe had called to check up on me, and we decided to proceed with telehealth appointments. Joe is so proficient and knowledgeable, that we were able to proceed without any issues at all. He would have me turn the computer different ways to get different views of me doing exercises, and he could show me and tell me what to do just as he would have with an office visit.

I am a few weeks into things now and have noticed a significant improvement. I am not at 100% yet but feel that I am over the hump, and most importantly, now have the knowledge and tools that I need to keep improving, and to keep my neck healthy.

Thanks so much, Joe, and the staff at Maccio Physical Therapy!" ~Jesse

"No Pain Meds or Drastic Measures"

“When I first began to experience lower back pain, I thought it was age related.  I saw a chiropractor with some improvement at first but I continued to have pain throughout my lower body with numbness and tingling.  When I realized it was changing my life and kept me from doing things I enjoyed (golf, skiing, traveling) I knew I had to do something.  Susan Stein FNP recommended Dr. Maccio.  After only a few visits I noticed some improvement and within 2 months I felt little to no pain.  I now have a few exercises I can use regularly to keep my pain at bay, and thankfully I never needed to rely on pain meds or drastic measures.  Thank you for all your help!” - Kristin

"Physical Therapy Proved Them Wrong"

"I had shoulder pain for over three years and thought that’s how it would be for the rest of my life.  Doctors believed I had a chronic condition affecting the nerve in my shoulder, but physical therapy proved them wrong.
I started to feel relief after my first session.  As they worked on my neck and posture, I even found other issues I had disappearing.  Rib and back pain, neck and throat discomfort, all faded and I felt giddy to learn how good I could feel.  I’d had no idea how badly I’d been affected over those three years of pain nor how good I could feel after working with Lindsay.

Thank you so much!" - Katherine

"Back to Playing the Sport I Love"

“A few weeks ago I had hurt my shoulder during high school basketball.  In order to continue playing well I needed to get help.  I saw Lindsay where I then saw myself getting better instantly.  I was given stretches to do during the school day that were quick and easy but still helped me a lot.  Due to her help I was able to get back to playing pain free in just a short amount of time.  Thank you so much for helping me get back to playing the sport I love!” - Anna

Back to Work and Feeling Better

“After doing something to my lower back which caused some pain and going to the chiropractor first, I then ended up at Urgent Care with worse pain than I started with.  My boss referred me to Maccio and said they were amazing and to give them a call.  I am so glad I did!  The exercises prescribed got me back to work and feeling better in a matter of days.  Thank you so much!” - Michelle

Pain Free After 10 years!

I had back pain on and off for about 10 years, with a sudden severe pain one morning in December 2019. I took a couple medications to help control the inflammation and relax the muscles, but the side effects made me stop taking the medications.  At my primary doctor’s referral, I came to seek physical therapy at Maccio Physical Therapy.  In the first week I felt much better following Dr. Maccio’s instructions and in two weeks I had a lot of improvement, feeling 80% back to normal.  In the third week, I went to ski twice in a week without feeling any pain in my back.  It does make me feel assured that I can always come back for help if I have any back problems again, and to avoid taking medications. – Jimmy

Constructing the Pain Away

In the summer of 2019 I injured my back constructing at Stone Wall. I tried working with a chiropractor for almost half a year and was not getting better. I had trouble getting in and out of my car, couldn’t sit on anything but hard wooden chairs, and could no longer run. I also had trouble sleeping because of the pain. Within several of weeks of starting physical therapy, I started getting my range of motion back and the pain went away. Within a month the remaining pain I had sleeping went away. Sticking with the stretching plan paid off and has helped me recover almost all of my range of motion.

Knee Pain No More!

I had been suffering with knee pain and lack of mobility and extension before coming into see Joe.  I have had great success with some other issues in the past with Maccio Physical Therapy and was hopeful and confident Joe could help me with this issue.  After an assessment of what was wrong with the front of my knee, I was started on a series of exercises that have eliminated the pain in the front of my knee.  I am able to fully extend my knee now and all the other activities I enjoy I never thought I would be able to fully regain the use and flexibility. I would recommend Joe and Maccio Physical Therapy to anyone.  – William
